Limits and borders
Limits and borders
When we started our project, we discussed the difference between limit and border. Also, we had to define what tolerance was going to be for us. First, you don't tolerate that which is forced upon you. You do not tolerate anything when the Ministry of the Excheqer demands you to write a declaration on your earnings every year: you must do so and that is all that there is in it. You don't have the chance not to do it. But, also, you don't tolerate what has been done outside you. Let's imagine that I have a friend who is a bore, and he insistis on telling me the same silly joke once and again. I can send him away, even if that means to end the frienship. Or I can stand the same silly joke once and again, that is, I can tolerate him to tell me it. I could not stand it, yet I stand it. That is tolerance. That, what I tolerate the Ministry of the Exchequer is not tolerance, but a swallowing: you either declare, or be punished. A limit is something I impose upon myself, a place beyond I am not going to be. A border, on the opposite, is a limit which is imposed by force upong me. Borders are guarded by armed people, and if you insist on jump them over, you can be shot. My limits are set up by myslef. Borders are setup up by the others, usually by a government. I hope the concept is clear for everybody now. Tomorrow I will translate it into Esperanto.
